The State Government has taken various effective steps to protect the people of Tamil Nadu from the pressures of commodity price rise. In this context the Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has instructed to setup
“AMMA mineral water" manufacturing centres on behalf of Government transport corporations throughout Tamil Nadu to provide hygienic and sterile drinking water at affordable price for the well being of poor and working class people of the state. As a first step,
“AMMA mineral water” manufacturing centre would be setup at Gummudipoondi, Tiruvallur district, which would produce 3 lakh litres of “Mineral water” per day. The necessary equipment for manufacturing ‘Mineral water’ would be purchased by the road transport corporation of the state.
The refined drinking water produced at this centre would be filled in plastic bottles of one litre capacity and would be sold at long distance operating government buses, bus stands at Chennai and at suburban bus stands of other districts in the state. The one litre drinking water which is sold by Railway administration for ₹15 and by private companies for ₹20 would be sold for only ₹10 by the Government transport corporations of the state. “AMMA mineral water” manufacturing centre as well as sales of mineral water would be inaugurated on 15.9.2013, birth anniversary of Peraringar Anna. Following this inauguration, efforts have been taken to setup
“AMMA mineral water” manufacturing centres in another nine places.
